Daughter of the Ram...

I've been working on this painting for a few weeks on and off, I always take photos of my pieces in stages so thought I'd post a step by step of this piece...

I had 2 canvas' laying around that needed to be used, first off I painted over the failed piece on the left canvas...

I normally work a lot tighter on drawings so though I'd start off with some space filling tags and simple iconography...


I carried on layering until I was happy that there was little black background left...


Next I started adding some detail, I decided that I'd use a drawing that had been meant for a wall which never happened(the one in the top left!...)...

Black detailing finished...


Next I wanted to bring the detailed part of the painting out so I started blocking out the background...

The first colour was too dark so I tried again...


Added more spots which attach themselves to the background spots...


Once I had tidied up the detail around the edges I started adding some white to the detail to bring it out from the background...First the hair...

Then the roses...

And lastly the skull and face, complete with putting the whites in the eyes...

And that's it finished...



It's been good since finishing uni being able to free myself up and experiment with some techniques and mediums that I haven't used at length since my foundation!...There's definitely more of this to come...
